Scientific-practical and didactic lectures in the field of surgery – tribute to professor Vladimir Hotineanu

Local and foreign surgeons gathered at the international conference Hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, abdominal parietal defects, advanced laparoscopic surgery, which takes place between October 5-7 at Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital. This year's professional meeting constitutes a tribute to the late academician Vladimir Hotineanu, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, former head of Department of Surgery No. 2, minister of health, deputy, brilliant, well-rounded personality of the national culture, knight of the Order of the Republic – initiator of the Winter Lectures as a form of continuing medical education in the field of surgery, who would have turned 72 on October 1st.
At the inauguration of the scientific event, rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Professor Emil Ceban, mentioned that the idea of lectures appeared in 2004, the emphasis being laid on the transfer of knowledge and new scientific information, exchange of opinions and experience, as well as on the methodological aspect of teaching-learning, on the development of the professional and pedagogical skills of the teaching staff, up-to-date information regarding the etiopathogenesis of diseases and pathological conditions, new methods of diagnosis and treatment being presented. In this context, the Winter Lectures will be dedicated to the late surgeon and will be organized annually, in October, during the University Days. ”It is well known that it takes years to become a good specialist in any field. Even more so when it comes to medicine, where there is no limit to perfection,” the rector emphasized.
Present at the event, the Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco expressed her respect for the work carried out by surgeons while saving people's lives and confirmed the support of the Ministry of Health for minimally invasive surgery that allows a quick diagnosis, operation, treatment, and investigation of the situation. ”The one-day minimally invasive surgery is the way to the fast recovery of the patient and a good solution for us, as a country, which cannot afford large financial expenses,” the official pointed out.
According to Professor Adrian Belii, vice-chair of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Health and Family, today's surgery is not only limited to the operating room, it reflects the development of technologies, engineering, information technologies, pedagogy, international relations, thus representing an important element of scientific progress in the field of health. The deputy highlighted the significance of state institutions ‘support for the development of medicine. ”Everyone must contribute to these extremely important and crucial achievements for our future and existence. In this sense, the intellectuals, especially in the area of medicine, including the community of surgeons, contribute a lot to maintaining close relations with colleagues from other states, thus making possible the achievements and the technology transfer in the field”.
The president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, academician Ion Tighineanu, mentioned the collaboration between the medical scientific community of Nicolae Testemitanu University and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, in particular several scientific events that were held with the participation of well-known personalities in the field of health. ”The future of scientific research is a topical issue, as it is discussed at most of the forums that take place, including at the international level”, emphasized the president of ASM.
In his greeting message, university professor Dr. Irinel Popescu, Faculty of Medicine, Titu Maiorescu University from Bucharest, director of the Digestive Diseases and Liver Transplantation Center at Fundeni Clinical Institute, Romania, gave an overview of the lasting partnership with the late academician Vladimir Hotineanu, under liver transplantation programs in the Republic of Moldova. The professor also noted the young team of surgeons, currently led by professor Adrian Hotineanu, with whom several surgeries were performed jointly. ”I am glad that this event has already become traditional, being a landmark for the development of medicine in the Republic of Moldova, and I would like it to remain the same in the future, in the memory of the person we all loved – surgeon Vladimir Hotineanu. You cannot progress in medicine without political support, and I am glad that decision-makers from your country are present at the conference today. Progress cannot be made without new equipment and technologies, and for this medicine needs to be supported by the state”, stated Dr. Irinel Popescu.
In the opinion of Andrei Uncuta, director of Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, the interventions that will be carried out during this scientific-practical conference represent the greatest factor of motivation and support for young people who should have the courage to learn and work further in order to develop the modern technologies needed in this field.
Professor Gheorghe Rojnoveanu, president of Nicolae Anestiadi Association of Surgeons of the Republic of Moldova, mentioned that the conference opens up new learning opportunities and offers possibilities for collaboration with Romanian colleagues, whom he thanked for the fact that this forum has achieved an international status.
In the end, university professor Adrian Hotineanu reiterated the importance of the conference in terms of teaching, science and clinical activity, specifying that each edition of the Lectures addresses various, current and useful topics, new ideas, opinions, methods of diagnosis and surgical treatment, with beneficial results for the training of future doctors, highly qualified specialists, competitive on the labor market in our country and abroad, as well as for the continuing professional development of surgeons in line with the contemporary quality standards and demands.
The program of the event includes current topics such as liver transplantation from a living donor, vascular reactions in pancreatic cancer, news in pancreatic surgery, liver transplantation in the Republic of Moldova, laparoscopic surgery in liver transplantation, minimally invasive surgery of adrenal gland tumors, news in cancer diagnosis and treatment of esophagogastric junction etc. The three-day scientific event will end with practical sessions and surgical interventions of liver transplantation, hiatal hernia and colorectal cancer, to be transmitted live for the conference participants.
The event is organized by Department of Surgery No. 2 of the Residency Faculty of Nicolae Testemitanu University in partnership with Nicolae Anestiadi Association of Surgeons of the Republic of Moldova
